Miscellaneous

I drew this image for my sibling's English class. They had read the play Medea by Euripedes (translated, of course) and needed to do... some kind of project. I didn't ask specifics, but they did need a thumbnail for a playlist. I was happy to provide! I didn't have time to read the entire play myself, but my sibling's description of the end of the play really stuck with me. They described it to me as "Medea kills the sons she had with this guy (no elaboration on who) out of spite and then takes their corpses to heaven with her on a sickass chariot her godly grandfather sent for her, all while basically cursing this guy out." I did take time to read the end to see if this description was accurate, and it pretty much was. Apparently this Jason guy betrayed her pretty bad, and Helius was her grandfather, so I went ham with the symbolism. I made her bright and radiant like the sun, with a longsword piercing her back. In her lap lays one of her sons, who is pierced by the same blade she is. While she is bright, her son is gray and lifeless. Medea bleeds golden ichor, while her son bleeds red like anyone else. I had a bit of fun with the colors and lighting, too. It kinda feels like pop art to me. You know, the kind they hang at IHOP. Apparently my sibling plugs my ko-fi and website at the end of their presentations when they use my art, so if you're from my sibling's class, hi!
