Archive: OCs: The Adventures of Teddy and Mara: Abysmal

This piece was drawn on FireAlpaca for OC-tober 2020, the prompt being Musician. I had already drawn Cyrus earlier that month, so I drew Abysmal instead. This was another experiment with drawing water, which I didn't like much. I never drew water like this again. I actually archived this piece for the background. It's hard to see through the harp, but the background is the only image I have of Mount Carcarem, the mountain that has the gateway to Skyravia's prison in the center of the planet. It's uh... not a very good reference, actually. But it's all I've got, so I'm keeping it! This piece in general kind of sucks. Abysmal is weirdly long as usual but also very noodly, the clothes are too stiff, and I didn't convey surf hair being wet very well. I do like that I did the water reflections off surfs skin, but again it's way too pool-y. I also didn't color surfs palms properly... I'm much better about that these days, but back then I didn't really think about it. I could rattle off some excuse like "oh Abysmal's a fantasy species surfs hands don't have paler palms" but I would be lying. The wild thing is you can see on the previous piece that I did tint Achelous' hands. You have to zoom in, but I did. I dunno why I forgot to tint Abysmal's.
