Fanart: A Hat In Time

This was a commission from my friend Aesop. It uses my newer artstyle for the foreground, but I'm too attached to the storybook painter sketch style for backgrounds. It took me a while to figure out how exactly I wanted to do the ceiling, but I like how it turned out. You can see that I started putting my name on my signature with this piece, but also dialed back the "sprawl across the entire work" thing I had done for a couple of them. It just didn't look good. I'd rather have it AI-kidnapped than have my watermark ruin the look. Coloring Snatcher was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. He's basically solid black, which would make him totally blend into the chair he was sitting in. I had to do a compromise where I colored him dark blue and then airbrushed near the center of his shapes with black, which resulted in a sort of painter-cellshade hybrid look that I like. I'm also pleased with the way I avoided making the entire piece muddy and dark with the skylight. If you look at my older pieces you can see that making night scenes wayy too dark was a common struggle of mine, so this is a good lighting level by my standards.
